PHASE Nepal Flood Response 2026

On August 2026, a catastrophic flash flood struck settlements along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems in northern and central Nepal, causing extensive loss of life, displacement, and damage to roads, bridges, hydropower facilities, and other critical infrastructure. According to the Government of Nepal, more than 1,000 people have lost their lives, while thousands have been displaced.


As affected families face the immediate and longer-term consequences of the disaster, many continue to require support with shelter, food, safe drinking water, health services, and other basic necessities. In response, PHASE Nepal mobilized its team to the affected areas to assess the situation, provide immediate relief, and coordinate with local authorities, health facilities, community representatives, and other stakeholders.

The team visited flood-affected locations across Rasuwa and Nuwakot, including Uttargaya, Dhunche, Gosainkunda, Bharkhu, Rasuwa Health Post, Trishuli Bazaar, Dhunge Bazaar, and Devighat Bazaar, as well as holding and relief collection centres. As immediate support PHASE Nepal handed over food support to District Administration Office, Rasuwa and Hygiene kits to District Public Health Office, Rasuwa and Gosaikunda Rural Municipality.

Discussions with affected communities and local stakeholders helped identify immediate and longer-term needs, including;

  • Essential medicines, particularly regular NCD medications
  • Selected essential medicines and injectable medicines
  • Water-quality testing support
  • Psychosocial and mental health support
  • Kitchen and cooking utensils
  • Clothing and school uniforms
  • Educational materials (stationery, school uniform and other school infrastructures)
  • Shelter support
  • Cooking gas and electricity/energy (solar energy)
  • Restoration of damaged health facilities and services
  • Repair and restoration of damaged roads, bridges, and other infrastructure
  • Relief supplies and essential services for disconnected and difficult-to-access communities

Recognizing that recovery will extend beyond the immediate relief phase, PHASE Nepal has initiated a relief fund to support priority needs identified among affected communities and contribute to ongoing relief and recovery efforts in coordination with local stakeholders.

 

 

PHASE Nepal established the relief fund to support affected communities based on the priority needs identified through field assessments and consultations with local authorities, health personnel, community members, and other stakeholders.

Apart from PHASE Nepal Flood relief fund set up through Global Giving, PHASE Woldwide, a sister orgnazation of PHASE Nepal in United Kingdom (UK) has also set up Emergency response fund to support PHASE Nepal flood response. Till September 6, 2026, PHASE Nepal has receivied around £70,000 in funds through Global Giving, PHASE Worldwide Emergency Responde Fund and individual Funders.

Following the recent devastating floods that affected multiple settlements across northern Nepal, PHASE Nepal mobilized its team to the affected areas to provide immediate relief support and assess emerging needs on the ground. The team distributed essential relief materials and met with local stakeholders, community representatives, and relevant authorities to understand the situation and identify priorities for continued support. PHASE Nepal has also initiated a relief fund, which will be used to address needs identified through field assessments and stakeholder consultations.
Following the first round of relief support, our team is returning to the affected areas with solar-powered lighting solutions to help communities cope with disrupted electricity services.
