Tati Maya Tamang, 63, lived alone in a house dilapidated by the 2015 earthquake. She was widowed years ago, and her children live elsewhere. She couldn’t rebuild her house because she didn’t qualify for the government grant without her citizenship card. Even if she did get the grant, it wouldn’t have been easy for her to construct a house by herself.
PHASE Nepal met Tati Maya when we were in her village Yanglakot in Sindhupalchowk to reconstruct quake-damaged schools and health posts through our emergency relief projects. It was impossible to ignore her plight and an exception was made to build a home for her.
