Reconstructing a School- From Three Students Last Year to Eighteen This Year

Reconstructing a School- From Three Students Last Year to Eighteen This Year
April 20, 2020 PHASE Nepal

Ganesh Basic School of Baruwa village, Sindhupalchok was completely destroyed in the earthquake. The reconstruction has not been possible even three years after the earthquake. The number of children in the school dropped from 30 to 3 as there was only a makeshift temporary tin shelter to serve as the school. This year [2019], PHASE Nepal completely reconstructed the school, adding a toilet, and clean drinking water facilities. PHASE Nepal also refurbished the classrooms with flooring and supplied additional learning materials to support child-centered teaching and learning efforts. PHASE Nepal provided a week-long in-class training with the children and three teachers. Soon after the construction of the school infrastructure was completed and child friendly classes were started, the number of children started to increase. There are 18 children enrolled and attending Ganesh Basic school now.

“I really appreciate PHASE Nepal‘s support to our school. I assure you that with these improvements in the school- better structure, facility and learning environment-all the students from the catchment area will return to the school. I anticipate that there will be at least 30 children next year!”
